Comprehensive list of charging station subsidy policies in nine major European and American countries
1.Germany
Business incentives: Companies can receive up to €45,000 in site selection fees to cover costs associated with installing private charging points.
Household Incentive: All German residents can apply for a €900 grant to purchase and install a charging station for their home.
2. United Kingdom
Business incentives: Companies can enjoy tax benefits on the cost of charging infrastructure in the first year.
Household Incentive: Individuals can receive grants of up to 75% of the cost of purchasing and installing a charging station, capped at £350 (inc. VAT) per installation
3.Belgium
Business incentives: Tax relief is available on the purchase, installation and grid connection costs of private and commercial parking lots, where the charging infrastructure is made available for public use.
Household Incentive: 45% personal income tax relief on costs associated with purchasing private charging infrastructure. The tax break is available until December 31, 2022, and drops to 30% in fiscal year 2023.
4. Austria
Business incentives: Companies and public entities purchasing and installing DC charging stations designed to accommodate heavy goods vehicles can receive subsidies of up to €30,000. Companies that buy and install public charging stations can receive subsidies ranging from 300 to 15,000 euros.
Household incentives: Residents who purchase and install a domestic charging station for a single or two-family residence can receive a subsidy of 600 euros; residents who purchase and install an OCPP-compliant power station for a multi-unit residence can receive a one-time installation subsidy of 900 euros. A subsidy of €1,800 is available for the purchase and installation of an OCPP-compliant power station as part of a multi-purpose installation.
5. Spain
Business incentives: Grants of up to 30% for charging infrastructure up to 50kW.
Household incentives: residents of municipalities with more than 5,000 residents can receive up to 70% of the subsidy; those with less than 5,000 residents
Residents of municipalities can receive subsidies of up to 80%.
6. Sweden
Business Incentives: Companies and public entities can receive a grant to cover 50% of the costs associated with purchasing and installing private and public charging stations.
Home Incentive: Individuals who install a charging station in their home can receive 50% of the purchase and installation costs. The maximum limit per charging point is SEK 15,000.
7.Poland
Companies and public entities can benefit from a reduction of up to 36% on costs associated with the purchase and installation of charging stations.
Companies and public entities can receive tax rebates of up to 75% of the costs associated with purchasing and installing charging stations.
8. Italy
Up to 50% of the total cost of purchasing and installing an electric vehicle charging station of up to 220 kW in a privately used parking space (individual or shared) is refundable (up to a maximum of €2000).
9. United States
A. Bipartisan Infrastructure Act (BIL) releases subsidy package
The November 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Act provides $7.5 billion to build a charging network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers on U.S. highways and communities, including:
(1) $5 billion will be provided to states through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Initiative (NEVI) to build charging infrastructure along highway corridors and fill gaps in rural, disadvantaged, and hard-to-reach places
(2) $2.5 billion in competitive grants to support community and corridor charging, improve local air quality, and increase electric vehicle charging opportunities in underserved and overburdened communities.
B. IRA Act Issues Tax Credits
Commercial charging stations: A single project can receive a tax credit of up to 30% of the cost, corresponding to an upper limit of US$100,000; based on a single charging station with 3-5 120kW DC piles and a single pile selling price of US$50,000, the 30% tax credit corresponds to A tax credit of US$15,000 for a single pile, totaling tax benefits of US$45,000-75,000.
Personal home chargers: 30% tax credit, capped at $1,000. Calculated at US$500 for a single 7kW private pile, this corresponds to a tax benefit of US$150, which can partially offset the additional cost of installation. Restrictions: (1) The final assembly of the charger is in the United States, and the entire production process of the charger steel casing is in the United States (including from melting to coating); (2) Starting from July 1, 2024, in terms of procurement cost, at least More than 55% of the components are produced in the United States.
C. The California government issues subsidy policies
In terms of tax amount, the California government subsidy ratio is as high as 75%. Calculated based on a single charging station with 3-5 120kW DC piles and a single pile selling for $50,000, a total tax discount of $70,000 can be obtained, corresponding to a single pile of $14,000-23,000. US dollars; the upper limit in low-income areas is US$10,000 higher, corresponding to US$16,000-27,000 per pile.
D. New York government releases subsidy policy
Public and Private Charger Subsidies: Subsidies of up to $4,000 per port are available for the purchase and installation of Level 2 chargers at public parking facilities, workplaces, and multi-unit residences.
